  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour (+1 tablespoon for busting)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of seedless raisins
  • 1 tablespoon of caraway seeds (or more)
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/4 buttermilk
  • 1 cup of sour cream

Directions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Combine the 4 cups of flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, raisins, and caroway seeds in a large bowl and mix throughly.
  3. Blend eggs, buttermilk, and sour cream in a small bowl. Stir into the flour mixture just until flour is moistened.
  4. Knead the dough in the bowl about 10 times. The dough will be sticky. Shape into a ball.
  5. Grease a 8" castiron skillet. Place the dough ball into the skillet. Cut 4" x 3/4" deep across top of dough twice to make two slice mark in the shape of a cross. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of flour on top.
  6. Bake the bread for 65-75 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the skillet for 10 minutes and then remove to a wire rack to finish cooling.
